4 Tips for Creating Awesome Content on Facebook
Content creation is one of the most important aspects of social media marketing. Facebook determines what posts get seen by which fans, so the content of the posts need to appeal to Facebook’s algorithm. You need to post the content at the appropriate times, as well as develop content that will resonate with your fans. It’s so important to focus on quality, and not as much on quantity.
So what should you post about? Well, the tricky answer is that it depends. It depends on your industry, your brand image, your company’s vision, goals/objectives, your target market and their likes, interests, and characteristics, and the list goes on. No one wants to hear an open ended answer, so here are some tips to get you started on producing great content.
- Highlight your products/services: Tell your fans why they should care about your product or service. What makes you different? What benefits/advantages will they obtain with what you have to offer? What specific features can you highlight? Think about your business from the perspective of the customer, and you’ll be amazed by what you can come up with. Once you have figured out all the things you want to highlight, be creative in how you post it.
Do side-by-side comparisons of your product with a competitor’s product, or even two of your own products to see what your fans like more. Create informative posts with product facts, ask questions, give stats, develop feel-good stories, etc. The possibilities are endless. The important thing to remember about these types of posts however, is to not over-do it. People aren’t on Facebook to get sales messages thrown in their face. They’re there to socialize and connect with the people and brands that they love.
- Step outside of your brand! If you’re a flooring company, you don’t just have to post about types of floors. Mix it up by offering your fans tips/tricks for preventing pet scratches on their floors, giving them dining room layout suggestions, or providing DIY project ideas. If your target market consists of home owners, think about the other things that a home owner would care about or want to know. You must understand your target market; this cannot be stressed enough.
- Have some fun with your posts: If you’re a B2B company, like us, you don’t have to be dull and boring. Spice up your posts with a little humor. You’d be amazed at what you can find on Google if you search for office, marketing, or social media humor. Laugh a little, and your fans will laugh with you.
- Jump on board trending topics: If there’s a topic that is sparking up all over the internet (like the recent presidential election or the run on Twinkies), find a way to incorporate it into a post in a creative manner. For instance, during the election, we took photos of two different products and asked our fans to “vote” on which product they liked better. Many times, simplicity is best.
The best advice that I can give you when creating content, is to think about the post from your fans’ perspective. If you were them, would you take the time to read the post while scrolling through your news feed? Would you then take additional time to like, comment, and/or share it? If the answer is no, you should consider re-writing it. After all, you’re not writing the content for yourself; you’re writing it for your fans.
