You Need an SSL Certificate for AdWords
Are you currently running an AdWords campaign? Do you have an SSL certificate on your website? If you are running AdWords, and you do not have an SSL certificate on your website, you are in danger of your ads becoming disapproved.
Recently, a client of ours was having issues with their AdWords ads being disapproved and we could not figure out why. There was just a notice that the “destination was not working”. This usually means that there is something wrong with the landing page.
When I couldn’t figure out why the landing page was being rejected, I gave AdWords a call. The representative explained to me that all AdWords accounts need to have SSL certificates. A red flag immediately popped up in my head, because we have several clients that are running AdWords campaigns without an SSL. I asked the representative about this and they let me know that in the near future, accounts that have insecure landing pages will get disapproved if they haven’t already.
What is an SSL Certificate?
To help protect your customers’ information, there’s a technology called “SSL” (Secure Sockets Layer) that encrypts data traveling between a web browser and a web server. Web addresses that are secured with SSL begin with https: rather than http: so some people refer to SSL as “HTTPS.”
Benefits of an SSL Certificate
I highly recommend that you add an SSL certificate to your website. Not only for AdWords, but for a variety of other reasons as well.
- Your site is more secure. This will reduce your risk of being hacked.
- Your search rankings will increase. Google likes to give searchers the best, safest, and most user-friendly search results every time. That is why having an SSL is a great way to show Google that your site can be trusted.
- It also shows users that they can trust you. When people visit your website and see that it is https instead of http, they are more comfortable sharing information with your company.
